In 2002 gardeners took this idea further by creating an edible forest on the flat roof above the centre s conference hall.

The sector39 permaculture design partnership grew out of work with risc in reading developing the roof top forest garden and related education work. The garden was developed using permaculture design principles and has maturedinto a stunning example of what is possible using these techniques. There are over 140 plant species benches and decking made from locally sourced storm felled timber and a greenhouse.
