Rusty vent covers will cause the spray paint to adhere unevenly. If you have an air vent in plain sight on a wall consider turning it into a piece of artwork. Remove the screws that hold the vent in place. Take your new air vent cover in one hand and place it over the gap where the old cover was.

Measure the size of the air duct opening. Do not measure the old register or vent. Use an old shutter. Spray paint the metal vent covers.
